Color Changing Mirage Beads

Posted by Enchanting Beads on October 17, 2016 at 1:10 pm

Bead packaging day here. AKA playtime! I love the mirage mood beads. I can’t resist touching them to see the color changes. When cool, they are black. As the beads warm up, the colors start to change.

Flattering Necklace Lengths

Posted by Enchanting Beads on January 10, 2013 at 10:03 am

Necklaces come in a variety of lengths, and each one is suitable for different styles and occasions. You can use your skills at making jewelry to create different lengths of necklaces so that you have an even wider selection of accessories. You can also learn how to adjust a single necklace to make it longer or shorter.

Necklace Lengths

Short necklaces lie closer to the throat, and some may have a very snug fit. Chokers are usually designed to be 16 inches long, although you may adjust it to suit your needs. Necklaces that are 18 inches are known as a princess necklace. The length is perfect for turtlenecks, crew shirts and low necklines, which means that you can wear it throughout the year.

Long necklaces lie just above or below your chest. Matinee necklaces are 20 or 24 inches long, and they are ideal for business suits and evening wear. Opera necklaces are 30 inches long, and they can be worn as a single strand or layered as a double strand. Rope necklaces are 36 inches long and can be layered for extra strands.

Adjustable Necklaces

You can easily make your necklaces adjustable, which will give you even more variety while slightly changing the style of the jewelry. A necklace extender will allow you to add a bit of length to your necklaces. This can help make short necklaces more comfortable, or it may make a necklace that is hidden by your collar easier to see.

You may also choose to design your necklace using detachable sections. By crafting your necklace so that you can adjust it to the desired length, you can use the same piece of jewelry for a variety of outfits. You can also make one section of your necklace the appropriate length for a bracelet, which will give you a necklace and bracelet in one design.  Add sturdy loops or jumprings into the design, and then add an S-clasp closure to make a quick and easy bracelet. The extra versatility will give you even more freedom and choices.

Choosing the Best Length for Your Necklace

When you are designing your jewelry, consider the outfits that you will be wearing. Find a length that will complement the ensemble without becoming hidden or overpowering your overall appearance.  As you start making your necklace, start in the middle and work your way out. This will make it easier for you to find the perfect length for the style you want. Keep a necklace extender on hand so that you can adjust the necklace to match the top you are wearing at the time.

By becoming familiar with the different lengths of necklaces, you will quickly be able to find the most flattering lengths for your body type and wardrobe.
