Safety and avoiding repairs
If you will incorporate a weak point into a piece of jewelry you can avoid some time consuming repairs. For example, if you have a person that routinely catches their bracelets on things, breaking them, first re-size the bracelet; it is most likely too big; second add a break point to the design. This is as simple as using a heavy gauge small open jump ring somewhere in the design. When the bracelet catches the ring opens. The bracelet can come off at this point of course but a safety chain can help avoid that and repair is quick, just replace the jump ring rather than having to re-string the entire piece.
