Beating Beader’s Block

Posted by Enchanting Beads on October 16, 2012 at 9:29 am

Most artists occasionally feel as though they lack the creativity to start a project, and this includes beaders. If your hands are itching to create something but don’t know where to begin, there are a few things you can do to spark your imagination. By openly searching for inspiration, you can quickly find ideas for your newest creation.

Peruse Magazines

There are many jewelry magazines on the market, and several of them are designed specifically for beaders. Purchase a few different magazines, and spend some time studying the colors and beads used in the projects. You may become inspired by the newest trends or by another artist’s designs.

Watch Television

If you are still stumped and don’t know what to make, pay close attention to your favorite television shows. Instead of following the plot, focus on the jewelry that the cast is wearing. Their bracelets, earrings, belts and necklaces may help get your creative juices flowing.

Browse Your Own Collection

Take some time to look over your own collection of beads and materials. You may even spend some time organizing your beads. You will be reminded of the treasures that you have, which will probably spark your imagination.

Experiment

If all else fails, make a quick and easy project. Once you get your fingers moving over the beads, findings and tools, your creativity will take over. Ideas and designs will begin to quickly spring up as you are reminded of the joy of beading. You may also try improving skills until you come up with the magical design that will be your next project.

Keep an Idea Journal

There will probably be many times when you come up with a creative design but lack the time or materials to pursue it. Keep a journal of these thoughts and ideas, and look through the pages when you are lacking inspiration. You will soon become eager to start one of those projects, or your previous designs will ignite your creativity.

Don’t let beader’s block keep you from enjoying your hobby. By using several different resources, you will soon have more ideas than you will be able to keep up with.
