How to Save Time for More Beading

Posted by Enchanting Beads on September 11, 2012 at 9:15 am

Whether you enjoy scuba diving or sewing, baking or beading, one thing is for sure- you wish you could devote more time to your hobby! Some people discontinue their hobbies because they fail to squeeze them in their busy schedules. Art supplies begin to gather dust and plans of taking classes or completing a project take a back seat.

But hobbies are just like rest of the things in life. If you want to save time for them, you have to make time for the same. All this is true for the addicting hobby of beading too! Here are some innovative ways to save time for that all-important “fun time” for beading. These time-saving techniques can greatly help full-time jewelry makers as well.

1. Setting up time – Set a fixed time each week when you can work on beading. This “appointment” must be just as prioritized as your other deadlines. You can tell your family about your plans, and ask for their help. For instance, if you are planning to stay on your bed on a Sunday and work on your beading project, get your spouse to cook dinner, or appoint a baby sitter who can watch kids.

2. Have a hobby corner – At times, the thought of dragging out your equipment and supplies from boxes or closet and then packing it all up again is sufficient to make you say, “May be I’ll just sit and watch TV.”  So try and set up a hobby area in your home where you can store all your supplies and leave your unfinished projects safely. (This also allows you to take benefit of unexpected spans of free time. Are kids sleeping? Maybe you can work on your beading for 30 minutes!)

If the space is less, you can set up a table as your hobby corner or work in the basement. If all of this seems impossible to you, invest in storage that is easily accessible such as hanging organizers or expandable folders.

3. Bead in company!–Teaming up with a friend interested in beading is a great idea! For instance, you and your friend can meet every other Sunday for a marathon beading session. It will be fun and will speed up things too. You will also bond well and can even get inspired by each other’s work.

4. Dividing projects into smaller chunks – Big projects can be overwhelming sometimes. The trick is to break your tasks into smaller chunks and set fixed time for each small task.

5. Delegate unimportant tasks – You can save time for more beading by delegating not so important tasks or by deprioritizing things from your to-do list.
